LORETO DAY SCHOOL, SEALDAH CELEBRATING 150 YEARS IN 2007

Introduction ...Training ...Centres... Materials... Academic Support Gr ..Evaluation of Sevaks/Sevikas ... Evaluation of Children

Over the past year about 15,000 - 20,000 out of school children in slums all over the city have been inducted into Education Centres wherever needed in their own wards all over the city. The scheme has been accomplished by the KRGEDUC (whose Convenor is S.M.Cyril) with the help of 60 NGOs and about 1000 young unemployed but educated youth from those very paras where the children have been found. The funding for this has come from DPEP and the Education Department of Government of West Bengal has given the text books free.

These youth have been trained (with funding from UNICEF) by Loreto Sealdah as effective primary teachers, and are now operating in about 400 centres all over the city. The trunks seen at the back are being used in their centres.
LDS has played a very significant role in getting all this off the ground and in training to date 1083 teachers who are handling nearly 20,000 children. LDS is responsible for not only training but for distribution of materials for each centre of 50 children. This involves a lot of counting and packaging for quick distribution – all done by Loreto Sealdah students.
