September:
At the handwriting competition, held at Raj Rajeswari Corporation School
on the 6th, Lily Haldar, Rita Kunda, Bijli Das, and Jhuma Haldar received
certificates of appreciation.
On the 7th, 30 Rainbows, attended a
wild life movie at Nandan, which was followed by a group discussion.
Vishwa Karma Puja, was celebrated on
the 17th with great joy. Mass Education Society, conducted a kite flying
competition at Victoria Memorial.15 Rainbows, and 15 students from Loreto
Entally, participated in the programme. They enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast
packets, as well as the hats bought by Sr. Lynette.
At the mother’s meeting held
on September 23rd, Sangita Mondol talked to the mothers on the Old Folk’s
Home, and the Food Programme for the old destitute ladies around Sealdah
Station.The Rainbows, partaking in this programme, received tokens of
appreciation and Chaitali Dhar was applauded, as the best care giver.
On September 24th Shefali Biswas and
Sunita Shaw represented Loreto Sealdah, at the “Leprosy Day”
programme held at the Academy of Fine Arts. A gift cheque of Rs 500/-
was awarded to Loreto Sealdah.
Puja Hungama – From September 29th to October 1st the Rotary Club of Victoria,
Times of India and Kolkata Police, came together once again to host
Sharad Parikrama. The 3 day Puja fun fiesta was hosted for 150 children,
from all the Rainbow Homes, as well as Domestic Child Workers. Each
day the children were taken in luxury coaches around the city to view
the Puja Pandals, and treated to very generous food packets and gifts.
On October 10th, twenty four senior
Rainbows went for a picnic to the Science City. Sharine Lazarus has
written an article which follows.
On October 29th Emma, a dentist from
Ireland together with Dr. Ashok Das from Calcutta, conducted a Dental
camp at Loreto Sealdah. 160 Rainbows were checked and accordingly treated
and advised.
November: On the 5th the Interact Club
of Pratt Memorial School, and Rotary Club of Victoria, organized a Dance
competition at Gyan Manch.
12 Rainbows presented a Punjabi Dance
– “Giddah”, alongside many other NGOS of the city
On November 11th, the Rainbows organized
a programme called “AASHA” or action against STD/HIV/AIDS
at Loreto Sealdah. The main objective was to sensitize and empower the
children against HIV. Right through the day extempore talks, discussions,
and essay writing sessions took place. The extempore speeches made by
the Rainbows were also quite outstanding. The day rounded off with an
Animation Film on HIV presented by Sanjog, with over 100 senior Rainbows
present. In the interactive session which followed, the senior Rainbows
revealed a high level of awareness.
