Activities of the School –
since May 2007

The year 2007 witnessed its usual share of co-curricular activities, as a mean by which the children get to enrich their world by widening their exposure to the vast fields of knowledge and experiences arising from contact with people and organizations outside school…

  • On the evening of October 6th – the Emami Foundation Interschool quiz competition was held in Kala Mandir. Two students from Class IX represented the school. The quiz contest consisted of a question answer round, video, audio and a ‘pick your topic’ round. Loreto Sealdah won the third position.
  • The junior champion hunt – conducted by National Geographic since 2006  covers more than 380 schools in over 10 cities. The winner gets to host the Nat Geo Junior Band on National Geographic channel. This year on August 31st the children from classes V – VIII participated. A few were selected for the city finals.
  • In September the children of classes V and VI participated in the Champak Story writing competition. Champak- a children’s magazine published in New Delhi provided the characters and places with the help of which the children were to frame their own story lines. Winning entries would be published in the Champak children’s magazine.
  • Like every other year Procter and Gamble conducted a programme on ‘Mother- daughter health and hygiene’ on September 28th –The representatives from Procter and Gamble conducted sessions , namely –
    (a)Introduction and warm up sessions (with bonding games between mother and daughter)
    (b) Mothers education session (while the girls were engaged in a separate activity)
    (c) Girls education se
  • On October 5th, three competitions were conducted simultaneously. The spelling contest conducted by Spell- Link; Writing- Fighting was a hand writing competition. While girls from Class VIII participated in the former, participants for the later consisted of students from classes V to VIII. Three girls from class VIII have been selected for the next round of the spelling contest while the results of the hand writing competition are still awaited.
  • The school level preliminary round of Aqua-Regia- the science quiz was the third contest conducted on this day, in the school premises by Triumphant Institute of Management Education (TIME), results of which are still awaiting.

  • The cerebral palsy awareness programme titled ‘augmentative and alternative communication’ or ‘AAC’ was held on October 6th where six children from the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy came and interacted with our class IX students. It was a highly enriching experience for all involved where each got the opportunity to share her own joys, sorrows, dreams and aspirations as well as to find out many interesting things about their new friends.
  • The month of October also witnessed the Concentrated Learning Encounter(CLE)  training programme organized by the Rotary club of Mahanagar and hosted by Loreto Sealdah from 1st to 6th October. At this 6 days workshop thirty Shikhalaya Prokolpo teachers received training. The chief resource person was Mr. Shiv Kumar Singh and he was assisted by six of our teachers.
    Through all these activities the school’s academic year had become enriched with new knowledge, new challenges and new achievements. The school’s effort still continues towards making each year more and more complete in terms of the experiences provided to each child to facilitate wholesome and joyful growth.
